11 Random Things.

American Eagle denim; Forever 21 top and shoes; Old Navy belt

Thanks to the beautiful Corinne of Life Etc., I have been awarded the Liebster award! As a result, I've been given 11 questions to answer! Because I haven't shared too many random details about myself on this blog, I figure this is a good chance for you guys to get to know me a little better.

1. When I grow up I'd like to be a... firetruck! In all seriousness though, I still haven't decided what I want to be. I'm taking it as it comes - I think I'm going to "be" a lot of things :)

2. First pet? When I was born my mom and dad had a couple dogs, but I was never super close with them. I begged my parents for a cat, and for my 5th birthday I got the sweetest kitty that I named Tiger.

3. Meanest thing you've ever said or done? I hate being mean. I feel really guilty when I hurt someone's feelings so I try not to do it often.  Recently, though, there's been someone who I have chosen to leave as a part my past for a few reasons and it's been hard to get that message across without being overtly mean...

4. Chocolate v lollies (or candy or sweets for those non-Australians!)? Chocolate - hands down. Chocolate rules my world. Honestly, if you want to be friends, bring chocolate.

5. Best advice you've ever been given? The most important thing in life is happiness and health.

6.What's your guilty pleasure? See question 4, and consider the amount of it that I eat per day (i.e. LOTS).

7. A perfect Saturday night would involve... my best friends, girlie movies and a bottle of wine. Last weekend I had it all except the best friends. Note to self: The Notebook + bottle of wine = bad idea...

8. Favourite travel destination? I haven't travelled much, but I loved visiting NYC.

9. Three beauty items you could not live without? Moisturizer, mascara and vaseline (I use it like lip gloss).

10. I never leave the house without... my iPhone. I know everyone says that, but I can't deny the truth!

11. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? I shower at night most of the time so I can be ready in 15 minutes.  I don't usually wear make-up on a daily basis so that shaves off a good 10 minutes!

What to Wear challenge: Summer Concert.

Forever 21 top (with DIY cut sleeves); American Eagle cutoffs (DIY from jeans); Aerie concert bra; Converse shoes

My formula for outdoor summer concert wear is simple: comfy shoes+shorts+breezy top+messy bun. Here's why:
  • Comfortable shoes so your toes don't break when people step on them. It's bound to happen. Converse save my feet.
  • Shorts. You need to be able to jump, run, or do whatever without worrying about your dress/skirt riding up.
  • Breezy top. If you're out in the sun all day, you need something that won't attract the heat (i.e. light colour) and that will breathe (cotton is your bff).
  • Hair up. You'll probably get sweaty and gross. This is no fun when you have long hair trailing down your back. A messy bun is a must, unless you're magical and don't sweat or you like that sweaty/wet look ;)
And because you're probably going to be gross and dirty by the end of the day, I always go for a grungier look in general. This way there's nothing to ruin when your clothes gets dirty. I mean, cut-offs and DIY cut sleeve tops? They already look messy, I don't care if they get messier.

I linked up with Sharon's What to Wear challenge today where she asked us to show what we would wear to a summer concert.
The Tiny Heart

Pop of dots & Starbucks.

H&M tank; American Eagle denim; Forever 21 sandals

In contrast to the dot-on-dot mixed prints outfit I posted a while back, I decided to let my favourite pants shine all on their own today with a simple white tank and summer sandals.

Also woohoo to blogging at Starbucks. Our internet was down again this morning and I was able to make it to a free wifi zone before work. Plus I got myself a few treats. I dunno about you guys, but when I order at Starbucks it's simple and from the menu. I always get a white chocolate mocha. Nothing special. But then there are those people who specialize every single part of their drink, i.e. soy milk, sugar free, no whip, blah blah blah. My question to these people: HOW do you figure out this is what you want?! Do you just start adding random changes to the drink and seeing if it tastes good? Like.. How did you come up with that complex of a drink? If you are one of these people, please enlighten me. I've always been curious about it.

A top 3 list, but not about fashion.

Joe Fresh top; Winners pants; Call it Spring shoes; Forever 21 necklace and bracelets; Fossil watch

On Sunday I went to see Total Recall with my mom. We're awesome and go to movies together, it rocks. And then there she was - Kate Beckinsale. No, not at the movie theatre, but on the big screen...

See, I have a top 3 list. A list of the top three Hollywood actresses that I have girl crushes on. I like men, but you know, girls have girl crushes too. These are my three:

1. Rachel McAdams. Stunning. I just watched The Notebook over the weekend and sometimes had a hard time figuring out who to stare at: her or Ryan Gosling. Seriously.

2. Kate Beckinsale. Since her role in Pearl Harbour, I have been one of her biggest fans. She just has such perfect facial features, and her hair...my god, how is her hair always so perfect?

3. Emma Stone - the striking red-head. Though she can pull off brown quite nicely, I'm not sure how I feel about the blonde...

Now, if you asked me to list my top 3 Hollywood actors, I would have to tell you I haven't ever thought about it. Maybe I'll go think about it now and report back to you guys another time.

Happy Tuesday!

Fall Must-Haves.

Hate me if you must, but I want to take a minute to talk about a few things that are making me think about fall. It's still so hot around here, but by working in clothing I'm already thinking about the fall season all day long.

As a result, I have found myself recently pinning outfits and products that will be perfect once the cooler temperatures decide to come around. These are my 5 Fall Must-Haves:

1. Printed Pants.

I finally bought myself some polka-dot skinnies, but I can't wait to wear them with some heavier pieces like blazers and chunky sweaters. I've also seen some great washed-out floral prints that I've been eyeing...

2. Denim Jacket.

An affordable denim jacket is new to my wish-list. I love this one from American Eagle, but I can't bring myself to spend $50 on a denim jacket...

3. Chunky Sweater.

Will these sweaters ever get old? Nope. Never. Too comfy and cozy.

4. Oversized Scarf.

Scarves aren't anything new, but as the temps get cooler I'll be looking for bigger scarves to keep myself warm.

5. Comfy mocassins.

Yeah so maybe moccasins are a little random, but for the last year I've been trying to find a pair that I like. I found some at Walmart but they just weren't right. Here's hoping I'll find some for fall!

What's on your fall wishlist? Do you have any pieces you can't wait to style as the cooler weather approaches?

A little darker.

Dynamite top; Forever 21 skirt; ALDO shoes; Fossil watch

I wore this outfit out over the weekend but didn't have a chance to snap pictures because we were in a rush. Thanks to vacations I have the ability to catch up on some of my outfit photos that I wasn't able to snap over the last few weeks. The trouble is trying to remember what I wore...

And here's the new hair colour! It's darker than I went last time, but it fades slightly with every wash so it will get lighter as time goes on. I like it though.

Beach day today! Off I go to not get a tan and to read a good book in the beautiful sunshine!

Trend of the Month: Pattern Mixing

Dynamite top; American Eagle skinnies; Payless wedges

Polka-dot explosion first comes to mind when I look back at theses photos. When I saw Marion's trend of the month link-up, I thought of my new polka-dotted jeans I just picked up over the weekend. Then came the task of figuring out what prints/patterns I wanted to put with them. After very little thought, my polka-dotted tank was a clear winner. I thought about going another step further and wearing my polka-dot shoes, but then realized that might be polka-dot overkill. So I just stuck to black wedges.

And sorry about the funny smudge on my lens. I didn't even notice until I had already uploaded the photos. I'll make sure that's cleaned for the future! Also, tomorrow you shall see the new hair colour! It's definitely darker but I'm curious to see how it'll show up in photos.
