My take on Jillian Michael's 30-day shred

As I've mentioned before, I was working out with a friend to Jillian Michael's 30-day shred program.
The idea is this: three levels, 30 minutes each, for 30 days straight at 10 days per level. You can find vid's on YouTube, or buy them.

My friend started it, but I jumped in after her first day to join her. It was great cause we got to bond over our pain and accomplishments together. As an avid gymmer, I figured why not change things up a little bit? Plus, it's bikini season soon, sooooo that doesn't hurt.

Pretty Accurate

I figured I'd see the biggest change in my abs since they're already kind of toned, but I didn't really... Where I did see change, though, was in my butt. It grew a size from all those squats and lunges. So did my legs. So, squats and lunges DO work!

Sharing how we felt about our legs growing

What did I learn from this workout program? Lots of things.
  • Jillian Michaels is psycho. Crazy. Out of her mind. My friend and I bonded over how we felt every night after shredding, and it included conversations such as these:
I censored it just for you. But you get the point.

  • Girls don't glisten. Girls sweat. I don't care what you wanna call it, but it happens. In level 2 and 3, I had it dripping off me, into my eyes, on my mat. It was attractive. But it really makes you feel like you accomplished something.
Proof.
  • Even if you look like an idiot doing a particular workout move, after 10 days straight, you get the hang of it. Starting the workout, I knew I couldn't do bicycle crunches. I looked like I was having a spaz on the floor. But then, magically, 10 days later I was able to do twenty. Improvement people!
  • 3 lb weights do serve a great purpose. She uses 5lbs in her videos and I'm used to using 8's at the gym, but her workouts are so intense that anything higher than 3 and I probably would have passed out a few times.

In the end, it was a good workout if you're looking for something quick to do at home. If you can't make it out to the gym, pull out a Jillian Michaels video and you won't be sorry. Or your might be the next day when you can't walk.

Happy shredding!

  1. Hmm interesting. I don't know why, but all that evidence of pain is making me curious to try it... I might look it up next time I don't want to leave the house to exercise! :)

    1. Do iiiiiiiit. It's awful but once you get into it, it's so routine and feels weird NOT to go through the pain. It's great when you feel yourself getting stronger.

  2. I actually have a super limited ability for squats and lunges as I have the knees of a 90 year old! (I blame being a fastball catcher for 5+ years of my life). So I can't do more than 20 squats without screaming (legs are good to go... knees... not so much)

I'm a big fan of long walks, 2 minute planks every night, and cutting down on the sugar. MAN - it has made a huge difference!!

    1. That's so annoying! I have pretty bad knees and actually the last level was really hard on my knees, i felt it for a few days after... So avoiding THOSE workout moves again, lol. Nice long walks are great though, and 2 minute planks? Nice!

  4. I did a shred class at Goodlife last week and holey molly i've never sweated so intensely after only 30 minutes of exercise! Oh and I used 8lb weights, I was dying!!! I didn't like the teacher so am thinking of buying the DVD so I can do it at home, fab workout in only 30 minutes!

    1. Yeah! I'm not sure what the Goodlife shreds are like compared to this one, but I can imagine if you used 8 lb weights you felt it for a few days, lol. What I like about it, is that it's 30 minutes of something I can do at home, so I don't have to leave the house. You might like it better at home too!

  5. I've been slacking so hard with working out. I used to follow youtube zumba videos at home mainly because it doesn't feel like your working out, just dancing around in your living room lol. It really does work too, I noticed my stomach and butt getting more toned, then I stopped. I def. want to check out the Jillian Michael's work out too! My best-friend started doing it and she said it's insane.
